Each of us is formed by two parts or energies, yin and yang. Depending on our vital moment and personal situation at one time or another we will be more or predominantly yin or yang.
The concept of yin and yang is often used to understand and explain the natural world and human behavior, and it is believed that the balance between yin and yang is necessary to maintain harmony and balance in the world. When one force becomes dominant, it can cause imbalances and lead to problems.
What is yin and yang?
The concept of yin and yang is a fundamental principle of Chinese philosophy and culture that originated in ancient China. It is believed to describe the complementary and interconnected nature of two opposing forces or principles that exist in the world. The concept is often represented by a symbol depicting a circle divided into two halves, one of which represents yin (dark, feminine, passive and receptive) and the other yang (light, masculine, active and assertive).
According to traditional Chinese thought, everything in the universe is made up of these two opposing forces, and they are constantly interacting and influencing each other. It is believed that the balance between yin and yang is necessary to maintain harmony and balance in the world. When one force becomes dominant, it can cause imbalances and lead to problems.
Yin: feminine, receptive, the Moon.
In the context of the concept of yin and yang, yin represents the dark, feminine, passive and receptive principle. It is associated with qualities such as coldness, stillness and downward movement. In traditional Chinese thought, yin is considered the more receptive and docile aspect of the universe, while yang is considered the more active and assertive aspect.
In nature, yin is often associated with the moon, water and earth. In human behavior, it is associated with qualities such as introspection, receptivity and passivity. In social relationships, Yin is often associated with the roles of mother, daughter and wife.
Yang: the masculine, active, the Sun.
In the context of the concept of yin and yang, yang represents the luminous, masculine, active and assertive principle. It is associated with qualities such as warmth, movement and upward motion. In traditional Chinese thought, yang is considered the more active and assertive aspect of the universe, while yin is considered the more receptive and docile aspect.
In nature, yang is often associated with the sun, fire and sky. In human behavior, it is associated with qualities such as action, aggressiveness and assertiveness. In social relationships, yang is often associated with the roles of father, son and husband.
Exercise to know which energy or aspect is predominant in me at this moment.
It is not uncommon for people to wonder about their own yin and yang balance and how it may affect their personality, behavior and relationships. However, it is important to note that the concept of yin and yang is a complex and multifaceted concept that cannot be reduced to a simple binary categorization of individuals as yin or yang.
Rather than thinking of oneself as yin or yang, it may be more useful to consider the various aspects of oneself and how they may be balanced or imbalanced.
We propose the following exercise to see how you are right now:
Take a piece of paper and make a straight line. Write at one end the word yin and at the other end the word yang.
For each of the following concepts or adjectives mark a cross depending on whether you think they are more towards the yin side, more towards the yang side or in between: receptivity, empathy, introspection, passivity, action, assertiveness, warmth, ambition. You can make a line for each area of your life, for example, at work, in love, in family, with friends, social life, etc…
